About me
Dr. Christine Yu Moutier has served as AFSP’s Chief Medical Officer since 2013 and is one of the nation’s leading voices on suicide prevention. She became involved with AFSP in 2006, co‑founding the San Diego chapter while simultaneously helping build UC San Diego’s pioneering suicide prevention program. Since then, she has guided AFSP’s science‑driven growth—expanding research, advancing education, and strengthening community support initiatives with a particular focus on improving access to resources for diverse and underrepresented groups.
Dr. Moutier’s expertise has influenced sectors far beyond healthcare. She advises leaders in technology, social media, law enforcement, construction, and major global corporations on adopting a comprehensive public‑health approach to suicide prevention. She has testified before Congress, presented at the White House and the National Academy of Sciences, co‑anchored CNN’s Emmy Award–winning Finding Hope town hall, and serves as a trusted expert for outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and TIME.
Dr. Moutier is a leading advocate for mental health equity, driving AFSP’s policy efforts to protect LGBTQ communities—from improving data collection, especially for transgender and nonbinary people, to opposing conversion therapy and restrictions on gender‑affirming care.
