Jason DeRose is the religion correspondent at NPR News, reporting on how belief shapes American public life and American life shapes religious expression. He won an Edward R Murrow award for coverage of the election of Pope Leo XIV. Previously, he served as NPR’s Western Bureau Chief for more than a dozen years. Before joining NPR in 2008, he worked at public radio stations in Chicago, Seattle, Minneapolis and Tampa. Jason graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from St. Olaf College with majors in English and religion. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School and studied religion reporting at Northwestern University. Jason has been an NLGJA member since 1994.
