About me
Missy Spears (she/they) is the Executive Director of Queer Kentucky, a nationally recognized journalism outlet amplifying the voices and stories of LGBTQ+ individuals in a deeply red state. Under her leadership, Queer Kentucky has tripled its story output, expanded its impact into Northern and Eastern Kentucky, received national recognition for its reporting, launched award-winning public health campaigns reaching over 600,000 Kentuckians, and completed groundbreaking research with 4,100+ LGBTQ+ Kentuckians. She is the 2025 NLGJA Jeanne Córdova Award Winner and led Queer Kentucky to a 2026 GLAAD Outstanding Independent Journalism nomination.
